THANKSGIVING: Psa_89:1 “I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations” Recount God’s mercies upon you, your family and the Church in Nigeria; and His blessings upon Nigeria; then thank God with all your heart. With your mouth exalt Him
REPENTANCE: Also, ask God for mercy and forgiveness for all of your sins, those of your family, the Church and Nigeria; pray for grace to "turn from...wicked ways" and live in obedience; that our land may be healed (2 Chron. 7.14). Seek God’s help for sustained righteousness in the land.
FOCUS OF THE WEEK: Help from Above – Pt 2
- Psa 25:6-7,18 “Remember, O LORD, Thy tender mercies and Thy lovingkindnesses;…. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions:…remember Thou me for Thy goodness' sake, O LORD....Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins”Acknowledge that we brought woe upon ourselves; and plead with God to “look upon mine [our] affliction and…pain; and forgive all….sins”. Plead that God should “remember Thou me [and the Church in Nigeria] for Thy goodness' sake”
- Psa 25:4-5,8,11-12 “Shew me Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day.... Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will He teach sinners in the way.... For Thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great. What man is he that feareth the LORD? Him shall He teach in the way that He shall choose” In many ways, the Church in Nigeria is not getting things right: morally, spiritually, politically etc. Ask God to pardon you and yours and all of the Church, to teach us and guide us in His will and way. Ask God in His mercy to guide us through the slippery paths of the current transition process, show us the right moves, like He guided Joshua at Jericho; that it shall turn out a breakthrough and not a breakdown.
- Psa 25:1-3,16-17,19 “Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.... Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses…Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred!” Pray to God that despite our many shortcomings, we lift our eyes to Him, we look unto Him. Let God not allow believers be put to shame; let Him not allow enemies of the gospel to triumph over the Church. Plead with God to look upon the millions of IDPs, upon the cruel hatred of the enemies of the gospel. Let God arise and “let them be ashamed which transgress without cause” against defenceless civilians, worshippers, sleeping villagers etc. Let God arise also for Leah Sharibu and others in captivity
- Psa 25:13“His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the LORD is with them that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant” God has promised that His own shall inherit the earth; Jihadists have promised their folk that they shall inherit Nigeria. Which promise shall prevail? It’s in our hands. They have abducted innocent citizens and are pressing for their promise. Let us press God for our own promise. Remind God of His promise that His own, the meek shall inherit Nigeria and beyond and not ravenous marauders imported from other countries to ravage Nigerian lands
- Psa 25:22“Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles” Ask God in mercy to redeem the Israel of God, the Church in Nigeria out of its troubles and the ferocious schemes and snares of the evil ones
SPECIAL PRAYER
- Eze_21:27“I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him” Leadership is so crucial to the peace and progress of Nigeria and the peaceable practice and advancement of the Christian faith. As the party primaries advance, partner with God to enthrone His choice of leader by decreeing that all evil and incapable candidates be blocked, overturned, cut off and God’s choice alone be enthroned over Nigeria.
