PREAMBLE
The Christian Social Movement of Nigeria (CSMN), the socio-political arm of the Nigeria Church, organized a Christian Consultative Assembly to deliberate on the forthcoming cycle of general elections in 2027. The theme of the Consultative Assembly was “2027 ELECTION: WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?”

On Sunday, 18th January 2026, many Nigerians awoke to a deepening nightmare in the Middle Belt: 177 Christians were taken hostage on a Sunday morning. Abducted from three different congregations, the victims included members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and two Cherubim and Seraphim Church assemblies. The residents of Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area (LGA) came to a grim realisation: the mass abduction of Christians had taken on a darker, more terrifying dimension.

The Lay Faithful Trust Fund last visited the Christian Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Sangere Dutse, Fombina E.Y.N., and Anguwan Fulani Family IDP camps in the Girei Local Government Area (LGA), Adamawa State, in December 2025. In January, we returned on another aid mission to provide our persecuted brothers and sisters with sorely needed clothes.

In the series of attacks by Fulani herdsmen against Christian Kaduna communities, the following villages in Kauru LGA were repeatedly attacked last year. They are Anguwan/Magaji, Kigam, Kitakum, Kishisho, Kikoba, Kamaru, Kitantsa and Anguwan Rimi. At the end of 2025, 152 women were widowed, and over 100 children became orphans.

Theme: CHRISTIANITY IN NIGERIA: WHAT WENT WRONG?
Date: Friday 20th – Sunday 22nd February, 2026

It was tragic.

After being driven from their homes by Islamist terrorists, the Christians became IDPs and fled to Fufore LGA in Adamawa state. Dispersed from various villages, with no means of sustenance, they hired a parcel of land to farm. In the days and weeks following, they looked forward to a bountiful harvest to stave off the famine and hunger that threatened their vulnerable families. The Christians planted maize, rice, beans and groundnut. After the harvest, the farm produce was stacked together awaiting distribution to the various IDP families.

The attack of the Fulani militia on Vengav/Aondona village, in Benue state, on 25th June 2025, followed the same pattern of unprovoked carnage against Christian communities in the Northern and Middle Belt areas of Nigeria. When the Islamists decided to leave, thirty-five (35) Christians were no more while two persons were left with fatal injuries, barely clinging on to life.

On 11th September 2020, NATIONAL CHRISTIAN ELDERS FORUM (NCEF), gave Nigerians the solution to the crisis plaguing the country. Those solutions remain the way out.
The TRADITIONAL RULERS and the SOCIO-CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS like Afenifere, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Middle Belt Forum, PANDEF, and Arewa Consultative Forum should take note.

As part of its program to make Christian Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) financially independent, the Lay Faithful Trust Foundation (LFTF) launched an IDP Skills Acquisition Training Program in Taraba State. Under the initiative, some of the IDPs were coached in the following skills:

The Christian Social Movement of Nigeria, in collaboration with Coalition of Christian groups, convened a Consultative Assembly to evaluate the escalating threats facing Christians across Nigeria. The meeting combined spiritual emphasis, data-driven presentations, historical analysis, and constitutional diagnosis.
